Freelancing Goals: The Productivity Hack You Need The Most Right Now

February 22, 2021

The online platform has changed the workplace dimension a lot. Especially after 2020, remote working and freelancing have become very convenient. Is it a hot trend or a workable way to build a brighter future?

WORKING FROM HOME:

When you are at home, productivity might be a challenge. Do you ever feel like there are not enough hours in a day to complete all your tasks? Well, you are not the first one to face this. Procrastination is a real struggle of working from home.

DISTRACTIONS ARE EVERYWHERE

If you live with other people, you might not get the complete privacy to work. If you have kids or pets, you may get tempted to play with them. And oh, how can you miss the household chores? You got up to take a 5 minutes break and one hour later, you are cleaning your whole house without even realizing it. While it feels productive, it is replacing the actual work you need to complete.

‘BE YOUR OWN BOSS’ – LIKE HOW?

“The more hours you give, the more money you make” – this is what you heard before starting. So, how can you get more work done in less time? Without further delay, let’s dive into the productivity hacks that none told you!

1. (DON’T) WORK IN YOUR PAJAMAS

Working in your cozy nightwears might sound cool but is it working for you? Are you getting in the mood of working? Think again! Dress up like you are going to work and see if it feels more real. You might sit down at your workstation and get some real work done.

2. WATCH OUT FOR THE TIME OF YOUR RESEARCH AND START THE WORK!

Do you spend more time researching before actually penning down some words? If you find yourself browsing different websites for hours, it needs to stop! Break your assignments into shorter sections and start accomplishing them one by one.

3. SET UP A DEDICATED WORKSTATION

Don't work on your bed or the couch. A work desk, away from your bed, couch, and TV will feel more like working and less like chilling in your cozy space. Don't get too casual because you are home and nobody's watching you.

4. SET UP THE TIMER & RUN A WORKING SPRINT

The idea is to work on any single task for 25 minutes without getting distracted. It means not checking social media, not opening any new tab, not getting up to grab a snack. If you are answering your emails, keep doing it until your timer beeps. Each span of 30 minutes is a sprint and you can take 5 minutes break between two sprints. After finishing four or five sprints at a go, you can take a 20 minutes break.

5. SET UP SHORTER DEADLINES

One of the best ways to make the most of your time is to create shorter deadlines. For instance, if you have a week to finish something, take a challenge to complete it in four days. It doesn't mean you have to spend sleepless nights working. Hold yourself accountable for the task and you will get in the flow.

CONCLUSION

Many people dream of quitting their 9-5 jobs for full-time freelancing. But very few of them structure their days to make things work. When you are running your own freelance business, you are the one-man-army. You are marketing your services, coordinating with the clients, finishing the projects, checking the quality, and finally submitting. It takes an effective plan, time-blocking, and consistency. In short, productivity is a practice, you have to show up every day and do your best.
