Crystal Alber
In the heart of the midwest is where you’ll find this entrepreneur. Crystal Alber, of St. Louis, Missouri is conquering goals and kicking ass, cancer’s ass. Crystal has been in healthcare for almost 20 years. She worked fiercely at the bedside as a critical care nurse until she chose to pursue the field of anesthesiology and became a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesiologist in 2011. Despite working full time and loving the field she was in, she just wanted more. More knowledge, more experiences, something different. As a lover of aesthetics, it was an easy transition. Crystal opened her own medical spa, Aesthetically Pleasing, in The Grove of St. Louis, MO. One month later she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
With a predicted 18-month long cancer treatment, Crystal never stopped. She worked full-time as a CRNA and then treated clients before and after chemotherapy.
Crystal states that her passion for her new business is what kept her going when it really got rough. “Starting a business from scratch and watching it grow into something so beautiful and rewarding is the best feeling in the world”. Initially, the timing of this business venture and diagnosis seemed catastrophic.
Jennifer St John
Jennifer’s mother was undiagnosed and untreated with mental illness for most of her life. When developing her next business venture, Jennifer wanted to combine her background in art and design with a social enterprise focusing on mental health.
In January 2020, Jennifer launched MARNIE & MICHAEL. At their brick-and-mortar studio space, she and her team design and produce exclusive, handmade leather bags and accessories. 15% of their profits go towards her ‘Mental Health Initiative’, providing resources, support, and raising money for other mental health organizations.
Although launching during a global pandemic has been challenging, she continues to drive the company forward. Her products are available in North America through the MARNIE & MICHAEL e-commerce shop, and the company is growing in the retail and corporate gifts wholesale market. The response to their Initiative has been incredible as they encourage honest conversations and raise awareness and support for mental health.
Adrienne Sandhar
Adrienne is the founder and owner of Lamb & Ivy - an online art gallery and apothecary based out of Edmonton, AB, Canada. Adrienne was born and raised in Kenora ON, and Calgary AB, and later moved to Edmonton, AB for work, where she met her wonderful husband Raji. Together, they have three beautiful sons under the age of six and have yet to have a dull moment.
Adrienne turned her passion for handcrafted goods into a collective supporting local artisans and artists and launched Lamb & Ivy to showcase high quality, award-winning, Canadian handmade goods and art.
A portion of the proceeds from the Lamb & Ivy is donated to not-for-profits in Kenora ON, and Edmonton AB in an effort to give back to the communities that have given her so much. Jordan Garrett graduated from Texas Woman’s University in Dallas, TX, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2016. She has been practicing as an Aesthetic Nurse for nearly 5 years now.
